Did you
know
that the
Dutch
introduced
the
Christmas
Stockings.
Somewhere
during
the 16th
Century
children
in
Holland
would
leave
their
clogs by
the
hearth.
They
would
fill
them
with
straw
for the
reindeer
or
"donkey"
as the
reindeer
were
called.
A treat
for
Santa
was left
in the
house
near the
warm
fire. In
return "Sinterclass"
would
leave
the
children
treats.
Later
the
clogs
would
become
the
Christmas
stockings
and the
Saint
known to
all as
Santa
Claus.
The
Legend
of the
Christmas
stocking
started
one
night
after
Santa
Claus
was
visiting
a house,
he was
going
back up
the
chimney
when
several
gold
coins
fell out
of his
pocket
and
landed
inside
the
children’s
clogs
(or
stockings)
which
had been
placed
by the
fire to
dry.
What
shape
and size
are
these
Christmas
stockings
supposed
to be? Big
enough
to catch
a gold
coin?
From all
my
research
it seems
as
though
the
Christmas
stocking
was a
sock
from
each
child.
So, much
to your
three
year
olds
disgust,
not much
is going
to fit
into his
or her.
Who
needs to
keep
this
tradition
anyway.
Imagine
the
sibling
rivalry
on
Christmas
morning
between
your 8
year old
4 year
old. I
think
minimum
size
should
be Dads
stock.
And what
goes
into the
Christmas
stocking?

Whatever
fits and
catches
you
imagination;
candy,
small
gifts,
toys,
depending
the age
and
stage of
your
child.
Luckily
tradition
has
moved
away
from
gold
coins.
If you
have run
out of
ideas
you
could
always
order
one of
these
special
Christmas
Stockings
listed
below.
Merry
Christmas
